Medicare Supplement Plan G
The Medicare Supplement Plan G is becoming one of the top Medigap plans available. The only difference between the Plan G Medicare Supplement and a Medicare Supplement Plan F is that the coverage of the Part B Deductible. The Plan G does not cover this $147 deductible in 2013. Remember that the Part B deductible is for your Medical services such as doctor, outpatient facility, durable medical equipment, etc.
Plan Options (Medicare Supplement Plan G and F)
The coverage for different Medicare Supplement Plans are laid out below. As you can see there are ten different Medicare Supplement Plans that all provide different supplemental coverage to Medicare. A lot of people will say that the Plan F is the best Medicare Supplement available and if you are talking about the best coverage provided they are correct. It is the most comprehensive plan on the market.
However if you are talking about cost efficiency the Medicare Supplement Plan G in most cases could be labeled as the best plan. There are several reasons why you would want to consider the Plan G over the Plan F Medicare Supplement.
- All plans are available under Open Enrollment, but only certain plans are available under the guaranteed issue rights and the Medicare Supplement Plan G is not one of them. This means that you should have a healthier claims ratio since most people getting on the plan will have answered health questions.
- Cost Efficiency. Most of the time you will pay $200 + more a year for a Plan F than you would for a Plan G. This means that you are paying $200 or more for a $140 deductible – that is not the most economical sense. However, the flip side of this is that you can go to the doctor and not worry about a copay or coinsurance on a Plan F – so there is a convenience factor just how much is it worth.
